Samantha Sarvet
Samantha Sarvet's paintings address the multi-dimensional experience of color and the sensory effect of repetitive pattern. They are brightly colored, densely layered, and embrace painterly irregularity. Each painting reveals itself through layers built up over time. Repetitious form and symmetry create pattern while opacity and transparency generate depth in color. The eye sinks and resurfaces in the accumulation of layers.
A painter based in western Massachusetts, Sarvet received her B.A. from Lewis & Clark College in 2014. She has been making art since she can remember. Her work is inspired by the otherworldly forms found inside our bodies, under the sea, theories of physics, and plant life. The history and handiwork of myriad craft traditions; such as weaving, origami, sewing, dyeing, and gastronomy are integral to her art-making practice.
